  1. I am a huge supporter and proactive thinker about making the educational system gamified. Although, I already had a good deal of background knowledge about gamification your blog further my education on this emerging trend. I have two questions:
1.) Do you use gamification in your classroom and how?
2.) Were you able to come across any quality resources that could be used in the high school setting? It seems like their is so many quality resources for the lower grades and then the high school students get left out.

    1. Luke, check out classcraft.com. It adds gaming components throughout your day. It doesn't necessarily change your instruction...it adds a gaming layer to your instruction, no matter what topic or grade level you are teaching. This is something that might appeal to your older students.

    3. Luke,

I use gaming more often in some years than in others. Quite honestly, student behavior is very difficult to deal with this year, and unfortunately, I am not able to use gaming as much as I'd like. When gaming is woven into our day, it is either used with a very specific purpose in mind, or it is used to help students better understand concepts with which they struggle.

I haven't really come across many resources for high school gaming, but I'll certainly keep my eyes open and pass along anything I find. Thanks for commenting!

    4. Thank you so much for the classcraft web site michelle, it has lots of great ideas.
      Rodney,
This is the first year that I have used gaming in the classroom and when I use it for a purpose the kids really enjoy. I get what your saying though, because this year I have very well behaved students and maybe that is why it is working so well.

  2. Rodney -
I enjoyed reading your blog about games! I also have a games in the classroom blog - with a bit of an emphasis on mathematics. I can remember playing Oregon Trail in elementary school - my how games have changed. It is amazing how much control we as teachers have over content students see during their game play.

I am curious what games you have had success with in your classroom.

    1. Hi, Cait! Thanks for posting a comment to my blog. Most of the gaming that I have found to be successful has come through the content area of Social Studies. That subject has always been a passion of mine, and I tend to gravitate toward it always. The best game that I have found and use for Social Studies is actually a battery of games dealing with U.S. government found at icivics.org. The site's games are phenomenal!
